Avalanche Tour 2012 w/ Shinedown, Adelitas Way and New Medicine 04/10/12

Egyptian Room at the Old National Centre – Indianapolis, IN

The  Egyptian Room at the Old National Centre in Indianapolis is an old Shriners Building that has multiple floors and it is a great venue for rock concerts.  As the sound echoes through the building and vibrates all around you can’t help but feel alive. It was a great place to catch the 2012 Avalance Tour featuring Shinedown.

The opening acts for the Avalanche tour were on par with the headliners.  New Medicine who I have seen in the past played well, although trying to sell your CD’s to the front row after your set struck me as a little tacky.  I get that we all need cash, but come on.

Adelitas Way served as main support before Shinedown and they killed it.  This was my second time seeing them and they did a great job of getting the crowd warmed up. They sang there hits from there album Home School Valedictorian, including “Sick,” “Alive,” and several others. They really sounded great and were the perfect opener for Shinedown.

It’s hard to review a band that you have been a fan of since day one.  Having gone through the ups and downs including member changes and a disappointing second album, Shinedown has always managed to come out on top. I don’t really get excited when I seen them play, nor do I scream, yell, or want any of them to even acknowledge me from the stage. Instead I go for the pure music that they play. Lead singers Brent Smith’s voice can be heard for miles as he projects the words right into your soul.  Fact is Shinedown puts on an amazing performance at their stop at the Old National Centre in Indianapolis Indiana April 10th, 2012 was no exception.

Although Brent’s voice couldn’t be heard as well as I would have liked in the mix, his stage presence made up for it. The set featured many  new songs off of their  fourth album titled Amaryllis. The record features the band returning to the sound found on their debut  (and my personal favorite) Leave a Whisper.

Overall the Avalanche Tour brought it this year. Sure last year was full of rocks bands including Skillet, Stone Sour, Halestorm as well as others who have all shared the stage with Shinedown in the past.  This one however seemed more subdued…not many bands, but lots of good music. I can’t wait for Avalanche Tour 2013.
