KISS and Def Leppard are two of the biggest rock bands from the 70’s and 80’s so when the two announced a tour together, I just knew I had to attend. My father was the one that got me into these two bands so it only made sense that I brought him along with me to the show. This rockin’ show took place at The Forum in Inglewood, California on July 8th, 2014. This also gave me the opportunity to check out the newly remodeled venue.

Won’t Get Fooled Again by The Who was playing on the speakers and towards the end for the last chorus, the curtains fell and revealed Def Leppard waiting on stage to perform and they finished the rest of the song. After that, they wasted no time in playing a list of their greatest hits starting with Let It Go (no, not the song from Frozen). Throughout the night they played fan favorite songs which included: Animal, Foolin’,Bringin’ on the Heartbreak, Hysteria, and the ballad, Love Bites. The band members may be well into their 50’s, but they’re showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Guitarist Vivian Campbell had recently been treated for cancer, but is now back on his feet and kept touring with Def Leppard. Def Leppard has a nice setup with lights and backgrounds which makes you wonder what they’ll come up with next. The main attraction of the band has to be their drummer, Rick Allen, whom famously plays with his right arm only since he lost his left arm in a car accident in 1984 and continues to drum with Def Leppard using a drum kit made specifically for him. Def Leppard is a great band to see live if you’re into the classic rock scene as there’s never a dull moment in their performance.

“All riiight, Los Angeleees! You wanted the best, you got the best! The hottest band in the world…KISS!!”

KISS is always an amazing band to see live. Sure some of the band members may notoriously be known to not be the friendliest of people, but you can’t deny the show that they put on. They have one of the most elaborate stage setups and stage theatrics from any band I’ve seen. The main stage piece was a huge metal spider that would take the band members up and down the stage as well as move on its own. KISS also makes use of fire, fireworks, fog and dry ice. KISS has always been known for their makeup in which every member has their signature face. Bassist Gene Simmons is perhaps the most famous member of the band because of his long tongue and constantly sticking it out and wiggling it. KISS played an array of their greatest hits including: Deuce, Shout It Out Loud, Black Diamond, Love Gun, Detroit Rock City, and their most famous song and rock anthem, Rock and Roll All Nite. The best part of the show has to be when Gene Simmons performs his infamous act of doing a bass solo, spitting out blood that covers his mouth, then flies up to the catwalk to perform I Love It Loud (video below). KISS is always a fun band to see live and I highly recommend them even if they are old guys now, they can still put on a show that will rock your socks off!
