Once again, winter is upon us and the month of December has come and gone. Certain things are as dependable as clockwork during this time of year. The days get shorter, the temperature drops, and the world around us is inundated (for better or worse) with non-stop holiday themed decorations and music.
Another significant thing happens as the year draws to a close: a group of highly talented Saint Louis musicians join together like a giant inflatable ... Read More

King's X Announce "First Church of Rock & Roll" 2012 West Coast Tour
If you were to ask our pal Reverend Justito who the most underrated band in the history of rock and roll is he would respond with King’s X. For over 30 years, the trio of Dug Pinnick, Ty Tabor and Jerry Gaskill have been cranking out their unique blend of highly melodic funkified bone crushing rock and roll. For the first time since 2009 (where we caught them at the ... Read More

12.29/12.30/12.31 - Umphreys McGee at The Pageant - St. Louis, MO
Words and Pictures By: Bradley Darby
I sure as hell hope The Pageant’s insurance is up to date..... because following the three night-seven set weekend to close out 2011 and ring in 2012, there is no doubt that Umphreys McGee blew the roof off the place! If you have never seen Umphreys McGee, you should do yourself a favor and make it a point to catch a show. The band can’t be ... Read More

Well folks, it is that time of year, when all the crew at Concert Confessions take our best concert memories of 2011 and sum them up into the 10 best shows of the year. I must say, I have been dragging my feet on this one, even more than my tardiness of the 20 plus reviews I still must write. 2011 has been a year of many ups and downs for me and can be considered a fucking hellride ... 2011 was a year of many ups and downs and a lot of very unique and diverse shows of which I feel lucky and blessed to partaked in. And hey, nobody died this year. So moving on to number 10.
Number 10: Prof, 08/17/11 The Pageant, Saint Louis, Mo
Prof had impressed me quite a bit the early part of 2011 with a strong performance and a free cd that didn't suck. A few months later he was back opening for Atmosphere, Evidence, and ... Read More

I can trace listening to Kid Rock to the era of the playstation. The orginal, grey old school playstation. I still remember playing the game " Cool Boarders II " when I first heard " Devil Without A Cause ". My friends and I had known about Kid Rock long before that. We were very much into Detroit's rap and underground acts and at one time Kid Rock was both.
Then there is one of my favorite concert friends. He ... Read More

The big sound of SOUNDGARDEN is back. I was a witness to one amazing performance from this "grunge" relic from the 90's. Singer Chris Cornell delivered like a metal god that he is...or a grunge god. Not only did he match note for note what appears on the records, (Badmotorfinger and Superunknown) he exceeded on some of those notes and took us to new vocal heights. Did it matter that this ... Since I was a kid I have been familiar with The Steve Miller Band. I still have vivid memories of my brother Tom playing their music for me many times. When I got older and heard his music it would remind me of great childhood memories.
As time went on I aqquired Cds and knew all the songs. I really wanted to see the band live. After waiting a few years I saw them 3 times over one summer at various festivals ... Read More

Homewreckr & Slaughter – 6/4/2011 – Clearwater River Casino, Lewiston, ID
Review from thenaturalstoner, pictures from Homewreckr
You know how sometimes you go see a band, perhaps past their prime, and the opening act completely blows them away? Well that happened last week in Lewiston, Idaho. My buddy AA and I drove down from Pullman, Washington to see Slaughter (and opener Homewreckr) and had a very up and down experience. The ups were great, Homewreckr proved they are a local force with big time ... Read More

Prior to the Sasquatch! Festival I had created a preview for this site, and a couple of days later I am ready to look back and see how I did. Lots of moving and shaking going on in the table below.
It appears that the biggest surprise of the weekend for me was Major Lazer and the biggest drops were The Flaming Lips and Iron and Wine.

First, let me go ahead and get the rabid fanboyism out of the way now: I am a huge Pink Floyd nerd. Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin were the first two bands that I really loved, the first two bands whose entire catalogue I had to own, and Dark Side of the Moon was maybe the first album that I memorized from beginning to end as a kid.
It is, needless to say, a little bit of a disappointment that I was born ... Read More

Only one band can be described as Front Porch, Whiskey Swillin, Foot Stomping, Gypsy, Punk, Country, Grumble, Boogie.....and that band is none other than Dirtfoot. The Shreveport, LA group came through town and played with St. Louis’ own Clusterpluck at 2720 Cherokee, an up and coming music spot that is also an art gallery, located in the art and shopping district of the Cherokee neighborhood.
The first band of the night was a new bluegrass outfit ... Read More

On President’s Day eve; Concert Confessions truly had sea to shining sea covered. While the incredible Jay Porks was being covered in large amounts of blood and semen in Brooklyn; I was 14 blocks east of the ocean taking my second trip with Cubensis. Playing two sets every Sunday at The Central: Social and Pleasure Club for the low, low price of two Abe’s (or ten Georges, perhaps a ... Read More

Last Saturday The McLovins reined the Iron Horse with a ferocious gait. They began with a quirky intro jam that smoothly turned into Caravan - it was fast-paced; it was funktastic. The intensity gave way to a quick reprise and a solid ending.
Jeff led the group into Tokyo Tea, an intricate tune with serious face-melting abilities. I've gotta hand it to these guys - they don't save the best for last.
The fairly new (and very catchy) Cohesive and Milktoast Man worked nicely as a change of pace ... Read More

For years, the Northwest corner of Santa Monica Blvd and 14th St has been an eye sore. The vacant building with a faded paint job, a broken marquee and boarded up windows crushed my heart every time I drove past. I am not sure when 14 Below went under because I rarely blessed the establishment with my presence. It had a bad vibe, the acoustics were crap and ... Read More

Generally, I have found that shows will crescendo in energy level and song selection throughout the first set to set things up for a stellar second set. I've really gotta hand it to these guys: Phish did not fall privy to such an archetype for their first show of the year. The pleasure plateau sustained and remained, if you will.
My Soul set the tone for a rockin' start to the evening, while Tube provided ... Read More

When my buddy told me he would find me a ticket to the show, I was less than confident. After all, the show was two days away and had been sold out for three months. I instantly dismissed the idea as an impossibility. Once again, good fortune slapped a bullseye on my forhead and shot a "once in a lifetime opportunity arrow square in the center.

If the thunder don't get you then the lightning will.
-- The Grateful Dead ("The Wheel")
On a hot August day in 1995 when my daughter was skating at the Cottonwood Heights Rec Center, one of the coaches blasted onto the ice wearing jeans and a tie dyed t-shirt. Uncharacteristic skating coach-wear, her outfit was a tribute to Jerry Garcia, the voice of the Grateful Dead, who had died that day. And with ... Read More

1st Mariner Arena - Baltimore, MD
Words/Photos by jjp3rd
Heavy Metal titans Ozzy Osbourne and Rob Halford and their respective bands descended on Baltimore’s venerable First Mariner Arena Monday for their first U.S. tour date after a brief Canadian jaunt, and treated a surprisingly (relatively) sparse crowd to a several hour metal music manifesto. And throughout both acts’ performances, Halford and Ozzy expressed their gratitude to the crowd for coming, which struck me as a testament to why, besides their music, ... Read More
