The next show to be covered on my 2011 “The Lost Reviews” extravaganza is The Devil Makes Three and Brown Bird, coming to Eugene and selling out their first show at McDonald Theatre on 11/18/11. To be honest folks, this was the first time I have witnessed The Devil Makes Three play live. I had heard from numerous people that they put on a show that is not to be missed. When in Eugene prior to this show, the band used to ... Read More

Well folks, I have encountered this question many times in the last couple months, “Hey Phishbeard, why do you go to so many shows, but haven’t posted reviews to everything you have seen?”. My answer to that question is hard to truly justify. I have been without my laptop for some time now and often I am on the road for numerous days before I even get a chance to sit down at a computer. Coupled with my ... Read More

As 2011 reaches a close, we take a look back at the year in concerts. In volume, I probably attend the least amount of total shows per year if you pool all of the contributors here at Concert Confessions. But never the less, by years end I will have reached 23 concerts, eclipsing last years total of 20. My only personal goal is to always get out to more shows then the year before. We did that in 2011, and here's hoping ... Read More

Well folks, it is that time of year, when all the crew at Concert Confessions take our best concert memories of 2011 and sum them up into the 10 best shows of the year. I must say, I have been dragging my feet on this one, even more than my tardiness of the 20 plus reviews I still must write. 2011 has been a year of many ups and downs for me and can be considered a fucking hellride ... There aren't very many artists whose catalogues I know by heart - and I don't just mean "heard all of the songs and have all of the CDs", but "know every word and memorized every breakdown and transition". For me, Matt Nathanson is one of of those artists. Even though he toured extensively on his 2007 release Some Mad Hope, I somehow managed to miss seeing Matt headline a show since his dual-headliner with Carbon ... Read More

The 62nd Edition of the Jay Porks Never Ending Concert Series is a special one indeed for a couple of reasons. One, we're heading out to the Bowery Electric (Joey Ramone Pl & 3rd St) down in the East Village for a charity event benefiting the Toys for Tots Foundation( ) featuring the musical styling of Joseph Arthur (and opener James Maddock). Never a bad thing to gain some good karma. Second reason this is special, it's because I've officially taken a ... Read More

String Cheese Incident’s Roots Run Deep Tour at The Pageant - 12/7/2011
Words and Pictures by Bradley Darby
The String Cheese Incident has been doing their thing for almost 20 years (with a break here or there) in the jam community, blending Colorado progressive bluegrass with psychedelic rock, funk, and jam music. They have accumulated quite a large following of loyal fans which makes it difficult to get tickets to many shows, especially when the show in question is one of the more ... Read More

SK6ers & Jon McLaughlin at The Duck Room (Blueberry Hill) St. Louis, MO - 11/29/11
Words and pictures by Bradley Darby
For the past 9 years, Stephen Kellogg has been touring the country with his blend of country-glazed alt rock... usually as Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers, where he wreks havoc on cities with 3 of his friends in tow, and sometimes just flying solo. One thing remains the same though, no matter which form of Kellogg you are seeing.... the energy of the ... Read More

After a show scheduled for February was cancelled just days after being announced, Split Lip Rayfield vowed they would be coming back to St. Louis later this year. Their last trip through the Gateway to the West was in May of 2010 opening for Reverend Horton Heat, also at the Old Rock House. I was a little disappointed to have to wait another 9 months to see these guys in STL again. I must say, the wait ... Read More

When Ryan Adams announced in the spring of 2009 that the current tour would be the last for Ryan Adams and The Cardinals, due mostly to years of abuse to his ears causing a partial loss of hearing and life just catching up to him, it left many RA fans upset, yet not without reservation.
After taking a brief hiatus, Adams released his take on an 80s Space Rock album on his newly founded Pax Am label and called it Orion. ... Read More

For the fourth consecutive year I made the trek to the Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival to enjoy four days of music and camping in a setting that they call “Where Music Meets Mother Nature.” With acts ranging from My Morning Jacket and Ben Harper to the Budos Band and Dark Star Orchestra to STS9 and Bassnectar, a total of over 100 bands spread out across six stages, with on-site camping, showers, and even a grocery store ... When it was announced in May that My Morning Jacket would be playing at The Pageant, the feeling that immediately came to me was jubilation. This is a band that I had been dying to see since I first watched the Okonokos DVD and caught a glimpse of what a MMJ show was like. Only problem was, tickets went on sale while I was away at Wakarusa seeing My Morning Jacket. Luckily a friend that is ... Read More

Potter. No, not Harry, not this time. This time it's all about Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. The group and accompanying artist Rayland Baxter made their way back to Utah to treat us with a set list that the fans themselves requested. A large crowd packed into downtown Salt Lake's newly remodeled outdoor venue, The Gallivan Center on a very hot Saturday evening(07/16/11). For some reason, the venue kept looping one song, over and over until Rayland Baxter took the stage and ended the madness. ... Read More

On 06/28/11, The Civil Wars returned to Utah. They brought along a young man named Rayland Baxter as the opening act. He is a quiet, humble man who simply plays his guitars and sings songs that you know are his own stories. Rayland has a very simple and sweet manner about him. He made jokes and told tales about each song. Rayland makes his music mold to you, and as a singing storyteller he teaches you that the best things in life ... Read More

Two things happened on June 24th, 2011: Not only did Dirtfoot and Treehouse perform to a relatively small (but energized!) crowd at 2720 Cherokee, but I also had the pleasure of meeting the other St Louis members of the Concert Confessions family (Bradley Darby and BeeZnutZ). All three of us at one place nearly rendered a tear in the fabric of space/time itself.
Not only was this my first Dirtfoot experience, but this was also ... Read More

Two months from now I will be voyaging to the magical land of Colorado to see three amazingly talented bluegrass/jamgrass bands at the Red Rocks Amphitheater, apparently one of the most beautiful venues in the world. Last night I had the opportunity to see one of those bands in the intimate setting that is The Duck Room, located in the basement of Blueberry Hill. That band was none other than the Infamous Stringdusters (www.thestringdusters.com)

Prior to the Sasquatch! Festival I had created a preview for this site, and a couple of days later I am ready to look back and see how I did. Lots of moving and shaking going on in the table below.
It appears that the biggest surprise of the weekend for me was Major Lazer and the biggest drops were The Flaming Lips and Iron and Wine.

Sasquatch! Festival – Monday 5/30/11 – The Gorge Amphitheatre
Review, pictures and video from thenaturalstoner
Monday morning was a little bittersweet. Of course we started with a morning drink, but Mr. Sparkly was already gone for a couple days and Phishbeard was unable to stay for one last blow out, so I rocked Monday at the Gorge solo. I had company from our neighbors of course, and the day turned out to be a total success. I got to meet an artist I really ... Read More

Sasquatch! Festival – Sunday 5/29/11 – The Gorge Amphitheatre
Review, pictures and video from thenaturalstoner and Phishbeard
Sunday morning started off much like Saturday, with a whiskey and coke. We battled wind the night before and made it through unscathed, but Sunday night would be an entirely different beast. The shows Sunday were great, possibly the best day musically, but the aftermath was about as lame as it gets. Read on….
