Nine Inch Nails with Explosions in the Sky 11/19/13 - Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, Spokane, Washington Review by thenaturalstoner Pictures by thenaturalstoner and Mouph Breaver For a Tuesday night at the start of winter in Spokane, Washington, tonight ended up being about as good as it can get.  A smaller than expected "sold-out" crowd (much smaller, maybe 2,500 to 3,000 people) made their way to the Spokane Arena through decent weather to see two really great bands play 3 hours of music. Starting promptly at 7:30, ... Read More

Dir en grey w/ Dagoba - 11/3/13 Trees - Dallas, TX Words/Photos by Steven Anthony It's been almost two years since the last time Japan's Dir en grey touched down here in the United States. After vocalist Kyo was sidelined by a throat injury last spring, Dir en grey was forced to scrap an entire U.S. tour while allowing him time to recuperate. Luckily he did so with no real problem, and last night the band finally hit America once more, kicking off their 2013 ... Read More

Camp Freddy – 10/26/13 @ The 9:30 Club in Washington DC

The date: Saturday, October 26, 2013. The text from my best friend: “BTW just found out that Zakk Wylde is playing with Camp Freddy tonight at the 9:30 club.” Me: HOLY SHIT?! I wasn’t sure who Camp Freddy was so I had to be schooled a little bit and I found out it was a band of rockers who get together every so often and do cover songs of other bands: Dave Navarro, Billy Morrison, Matt Sorum (but this night he wasn’t there, it ... Lots of people hate them, calling them derivative/wannabe rock stars. At the other end of the spectrum, you have the band's fans, eating up everything the band releases including their latest album Hail to the King which recently topped the Billboard's Top 100. Touring in support of that record, Avenged Sevenfold stopped at Oklahoma City's Chesapeake Energy Arena last ... Read More

Local H Say Good-Bye to Brian In New York City – 10/5/13 – Santos Party House

Categories: Reviews

I know I’ve only written a few reviews and one of them was a Local H review, but I just have to do another one after catching them in New York. This was a big trip for me for three reasons. One, I had never been to New York and it was on my bucket list of things to do before I turn 40 (which is funny because I’m only 3-4 hours away). Two, this was one of the last shows that Brian would ... Read More

I've been contributing posts to Concert Confessions for something like four years now. Throughout this entire period, our founding father Reverend Justito had continuously told me that I need to listen to this band called Blitzen Trapper. He told me once... he told me twice... hell, he even told me thrice. And I heard him, but I didn't listen to ... Read More

Ted Nugent - 08/25/13 Diamond Ballroom - Oklahoma City, OK Words/Photos by Steven Anthony After a handful of decades in the music industry, Ted Nugent has still not stopped. He continues trucking on, bathing in whatever spotlight he can find by drumming up political controversy, spouting out the kind of quotables that make news editors daydream of potential headlines. Three Days Grace – Old National Center – Indianapolis, IN – 08-10-2013

Three Days Grace has had their fair share of ups and downs over the course of the last year, but they have risen above it all and came out on top to put together a solid performance. If you are a die-hard fan of the band, you know the whole story and how it unfolded over social media (in the event you are not a fan, vocalist Adam Gontier left the band), it was a knock down drag out affair, but in the end ... If anyone knows me they know I'm not much of a "country" music fan, but if you play a fiddle and can rock out with the best rock bands out there, I'm probably going to like you. Natalie Stovall is a fiddle playing genius, she ranks right up there with the great Charlie Daniels, and even does a mean remake of "Devil went down to Georgia" on the fiddle. Natalie has toured tons of college campuses, and in 2012 was named the 2012 ... Read More

As many times as I've seen Halestorm over the past three years, they never disappoint, they always put on an amazing show. An Evening with CAKE – Sandpoint, Idaho – 8/2/13

Categories: Festivals, Reviews

On an overcast August evening, on the bank of Lake Pend Oreille (pronounced: pond-o-ray) in Idaho, I came face-to-face with what I had considered to be my white whale. I was about to see a band that, for years, would play a few shows in the Pacific Northwest but, for some reason, those shows would fall on days that made it difficult for me to attend. This night, however, was my night. It was my night to check that band off my list, to ... Read More

The Postal Service Celebrate 10 Years Of ‘Give Up’ In Los Angeles

At the ripe age of 34, I have seen the music industry reinvent itself on more than one occasion. While I was fortunate enough to begin my musical identity right as Nirvana was taking off, it is my honest opinion that there are only a few perfect records created. One of these perfect albums just so happened to be released as I entered my second decade of musical snobbery. That album is called Give Up and as it now enters its second ... Read More
